Christi Wans is a freelance trumpet player and soloist in the Oklahoma City metro area, specializing in piccolo and other high trumpets. She is the Instructor of Brass at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and Rose State College, and serves as adjunct trumpet instructor at the University of Oklahoma.

Wans has held positions with the Yakima and Mid-Columbia Symphonies, and has recently performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Norman Philharmonic orchestras. Active in the brass band community, she holds the soprano cornet chair in the Frontier and Arkansas Musicworks Brass Bands, the flugelhorn chair in the Salvation Army AOK divisional band, and has performed with the Fountain City and Dallas Brass Bands. Wans traveled Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific islands as a showband member with Princess Cruise Lines, and completed a two-year run as lead trumpet with the national tour of Kinky Boots, performing in 47 states, Canada, China, and Singapore.

Ms. Wans is an active soloist and recitalist, recently performing concertos with the University of Oklahoma Symphony Band, Frontier Brass Band, Oklahoma Haydn Festival, and Oklahoma Brass Choir. She was a member of the commissioning consortium for James Stephenson’s Concerto for Piccolo Trumpet, performing the Oklahoma premiere of the work in 2019.

Wans earned her bachelors degrees in music education and trumpet performance from Central Washington University and masters degree in performance from the University of Oklahoma. She is a Doctorate of Musical Arts candidate in trumpet performance at the University of Oklahoma, where she previously served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant in trumpet and coordinator of the William Adam International Trumpet Seminar. She is currently on staff as the trumpet instructor at Norman Public Schools and also maintains a private studio.
